Boston’s Emetrex, who were put together by part time Wheat guitarist Rick Lescault, release their second single on Seriously Groovy imprint Infur.
I’ve been listening to this for at least a month and I’m still not too sure about the lead track 'King Of Animals', I think they’ve overstepped the boundary of experimentation, there are too many different layers of sounds and guitar loops. If this were my introduction to Emetrex I probably wouldn’t want to listen to them again.
Thankfully its not and I listened to the B-sides ‘A Day In Bed’ and ‘Half A Lie’, these show that Emetrex are one of America’s best exports. ‘A Day In Bed’ is finger plucking acoustic number with gorgeous electronica noises and looped rhythm sections in the background, when you add lines like “A giant star explodes in your eye” its kinda gives you a sense of what heaven must be like, maybe. ‘Half A Lie’ could be a part of the ‘New Acoustic Movement’ (New? Yeah right), it’s a minimalistic song which sounds like a joint project between Mercury Rev and Spaceman 3.
