Scotland seems to be a fertile breeding ground for talent right now; Franz Ferdinand are arguably the media darlings of the year, Biffy Clyro continue to grow in popularity and the likes of The Kitchen, Multiplies and Us vs. Them are yet more names to look out for in the coming months.

One name you probably won't have heard yet is that of Korova. An Edinburgh three-piece still in their teens, they already play with such furious intent it would be hard not to sit up and take notice. Opener, 'White Russian' shows off their sizeable talent from the start. As anthemic as it is ambitious, it has a chorus hook big enough to grip even the shortest of attention spans.

The second track 'Ballad Of A Rich Man' is even better and already, at demo level, sounds like the finished product. The entire verse is discordant and tense, incorporating angular and disorientating guitar work alongside fiercely passionate vocals. Then there’s the third and final song, 'Pretty 13' which again goes straight for your throat with another visceral mix of aggresion and hooks.

Prioritising a melodic sensibility alongside abbrasive innovation, Korova seem less concerned with preconceptions of acceptance or hunting an NME seal of approval and more interested in writing music that captures youth, energy and genuine emotion.

A hugely promising start.
