Repomen

Save Yourself

Label:

3258
athomas by Andy (quirk) Thomas February 10th, 2003

Four guys from Sheffield who've had praise lavished upon them from sources diverse as Record Collector and Steve Lamacq. 'Save Yourself', the lead track on this 4 track EP is a poppy punky little number, "don't get sucked in by religion, save yourself for rock n' roll" indeed. The second track is the more reflective ballad, 'Lauren Bacall'. It's pretty enough with its swing time rhythm and piano backing. The vocals cry a bit, feel the emotion.. The other two follow the lead of the second, contemplative acoustic tinged efforts that are pleasant enough. Direct influences are in short supply though I'll go with their citing of Puressence. Not so sure about The Buzzcocks or Auteurs however. Essentially Repomen fall into that category of being very good at what they do, which isn't all that different from what many others have done before. Worthy but unexceptional.
