I know, I know: who?
And it's a fair enough question; a week ago I knew nothing of V9R9D - two men from some city over there who arrived on these shores in January with Party Of One. I now know little more - 'The Boom/Bip EP' doesn't give much away whatsoever. What little insight the inlay gives to the two men involved is somewhat vague - Witchfinder Teacup (yes, that's his name, apparently) "played drums and never once ate a dog biscuit," whilst The Professor (of what, we don't know) "played bass and once drank water from a fishbowl." Good work.
If you're thinking along the lines of Pink and Brown, Lightning Bolt and Hella right now, you're in the right ballpark, although these six tracks lack the subtle humour that permeates records by those aforementioned artists. 'The Boom/Bip EP' is a hard slog - technically accomplished math-rock it may be, but it lacks any real emotion, and ultimately lacks any sort of longevity as a result.
Impressive on a first listen then, but despite the chuckle-friendly song titles - 'Safari Hat Adventure' and 'Step 4 In My Plan For World Domination' - there's nothing here that'll tickle your fancy for too long.
