Train

Drops Of Jupiter

Label: Columbia Records Release Date: 30/07/2001

525
-Raz- by Raziq Rauf July 28th, 2001

This is quite definitely American. This is quite definitely MOR. This definitely reminds me of Sheryl Crow. This is not bad! Sorry, I'm lying again. Err, it hurts my ears a bit. The soaring choruses and rhythmic verses occur regularly. Almost, in every single bloody song. Diverse *is _not _a word I shall be using to describe *Train. Well, they're just boring. They incorporate the strings and the piano into the guitar 'driven' melodies for an epic effect. It almost works, but then the *harmonica *kicks in, spoiling everything.

*Pat Monahan's *lyrics are not really that cleverly worded but seem to tell a story plainly enough. It says he plays trumpet, sax and vibes too, whatever they are. Indeed all five members are rather *multi-talented *playing at least three instruments each. Take your hats off and salute them, or something. The fact that there is a *mandolin *residing in this album deserves a bonus point!

There is nothing new *happening with this album and, equally, there is nothing to raise even a wary mother's *eyebrow. This makes it all rather friendly and it plods along quite nicely. I managed to hear the whole album twice before actually _listening _to it. So basically, it just wasted my time. It filled the background nicely but there is insufficient emotion or innovation for anyone to take much notice of them.

There is a little slip in the sleeve which claims that if you do not _love _this album and return it within a week of purchase, the record company will refund your money! Sadly, though, this offer is available only in the good ol' US of A. So we have to get the refund the good ol' way of taking it back to the record shop.

The track-listing is…
