two years after smashing the buzz barrier that followed their every move and topping the singles and album chart in the uk, katie white and jules de martino return rubbing their eyes to bring us their eagerly-anticipated sophomore album 'sounds from nowheresville'. lead single 'hang it up' could quite happily sit on 'we started nothing' with its funky dirty rhythm, backed by the anthemic drums of dizzee rascal's 'fix up look sharp', that stands up with 'that's not my name' and 'great dj' as genuine indie-pop tunes. for the most part, rather than following their method of paint-by-number guitar injections over de martino's dance-punk beats, the salford duo's incorporation of samples and 808s on each track ('soul killing' and 'one by one' a ska-jive and synth popper that highlights) take them from indie beat-makers to pop peruses as quick as you can say 'shut up and let me go'.
