robbie furze and milo cordell, the musical orchestrators behind the big pink release their debut long player on 4ad and it's everything you hoped it would be. they use gritty beats, droning guitars, abstract effects and dreamy vocals to make huge sounding slightly leftfield pop songs. the album was recorded at electric ladyland and mixed by rich costey. there are elements of spacemen 3 and spiritualised's trance gospel, of my bloody valentine's brief foray into nightclub territory on their andy weatherall-remixed epic of noise-dance, 'soon', even of happy mondays' religious rhythmic rock classic, 'hallelujah'. standout tracks are the upbeat stone roses refrencing 'at war with the sun' and the already classic single 'velvet' which recalls 'the mercy seat' by ultra vivid scene. an immense album with real emotional depth.
