'love in time of recession' is the latest album from ex factory recording artists the durutti column. first track 'in memory of anthony' is inspired by vini reilly's career-long friendship tony wilson, who died in august 2007. vini notes that "he always encouraged me to follow my instincts. and that's still how i work. all the new songs are a very true reflection of my life and that's all i want any album to be." elsewhere, 'for bruce' pays instrumental tribute to the gonzo drum-master himself, bruce mitchell. vini acknowledges that the album could not have been made without bruce, keir stewart and laurie laptop: "without all of them i don't know how i would be able to carry on, on any level. and as musicians there's no one else i would rather work with." another key collaboration on the album is the one with vini's girlfriend poppy morgan which resulted in the co-written track 'wild beast tamed' and others. poppy also partly inspired the title of the album, a romantic (and economically accurate) nod to gabriel garca mrquez's novel, love in the time of cholera. cd only on artful.....release date: 02/03/2009
