South London's Paradise Bar - birthplace and hub of the so-called New Cross scene - is now shut for at least six weeks due to a legal technicality which has left the venue without a license. All gigs are cancelled - that includes tonight's planned DiS knees-up.
DiS understand that although the court case for its liquor license was dropped, their temporary unlicensed status does not make local police best pleased. A gig last night at the venue was operated as a warehouse party without the sale of alcohol. Miraculously, it appears that notorious guerrilla giggers The Others were NOT involved in this particular incident. Hold the front fucking page.
In a statement just issued, Paradise promoter Caffy St Luce says: "The venue will relaunch in August, more information will follow nearer to the time. For now, local venues are being sought to relocate the Tuesday and Wednesday rock/pop/new wave bills that will be affected by this news, so that as few bands and music fans as possible will be let down."
Currently, many of the gigs planned look like being accommodated by the kind folks at The Amersham Arms.
DiS wishes the staff all the best in their quest to find temporary jobs!
