Later this month (the 17th April to be exact), Newcastle Upon Tyne will play host to the Culturama Hip Hop Film Festival on its first trip to the UK.
Previous screenings have been held in NY and Hollywood and its first-ever European screening will be at the Tyneside Cinema. The Tyneside have been promoting this type of event for several years, hoping to reach a wider audience and providing a space to create and perform multimedia events.
Creator of Culturama, Peter Agosten is a distributor for independent film compilations and was influenced by documentary filmmakers like Nick Broomfield. His aim is to give more exposure to Indie hip-hop.
Showing will be exclusive videos and documentary footage from the cream of the Independent and underground US hip-hop. Quasimoto (Madlib) , MF Doom, Jigmastas, KRS 1, People Under the Stairs, Buck 65, Living Legends and Non Phixion are just some of the featured artists in the film show.
Right after the screening J. Rawls from Lone Catalysts will be dropping a exclusive set in the Cinema’s Electra auditorium, and later there will be another set from DJ Thanksgiving Brown.
You can contact the Tyneside Cinema on 0191 232 8289 and tickets cost £8.00.
