In the City is an annual event ran by Tony Wilson of Factory Records/24hr Party People fame. The event, themed this year around the "State of the Nation" has seminars and live debates about all sorts of topics such as mp3s, poor festival sales, amount of jobs lost in the past year in the music business. DiS-Editor Sean Adams has been invited onto two of the panels; one about the poor media informing, resource and scene-chasing of the broadsheet media and another titled 'young turks' which we're not 100% sure what it's all about just yet, but the MD of Mushroom Worldwide, the A+R fella who signed the Prodigy and the guy from 679 (Ben Kweller, Leaves, Polyphonic) label are on it..
The main point of the event, apart from Networking (daaahling) is to put on LOADS of unsigned bands for A&Rs, Managers, Agents, Producers, Lawyers, etc; to check out and find some likely suspects to unleash on us next year. Muse came out of it full of offers four years back and look at them now.
As part of the event we were invited to put together a bill of bands. So we have....
10pm PiNHOLE: Scousers with cheeky punk-pop, recently seen supporting GreenDay and have a single out Sept 16th and their last single was on on Dis contributors John Robbs infamous punk label.
9pm ENGERiCA: They're like System of a Down wrestling in torn black tights with Billy Corgan. Our big hopes for big, big, huuuge things (Since October 2001) and we still don't know how these essex lads are unsigned.
8pm S.ROCK LEViNSON: They don't have rock in their name for nothing. Imagine Pixies leaping around to JSBX.
@ Big Hands, 296 Oxford Road.
ENTRY: FREE.
