We all know just how fertile the Danish music scene is, so we don't need reminding of it, though we frequently are, with bands like Oh No Ono, Mew, Efterklang and Slaraffenland knocking on our doors at regular intervals, almost forcing their way into our world.
It's the latter two we want to talk about now because, as well as being good friends (gode venner) they also play together (spille sammen) in an outfit going by the name of Slaraffenklang. You can work it how they got this name. Anyway, the news today is that they're giving away an EP - a sort of split, sort of collaborative type effort which features the following tracks.
- Miragone
- Cutting Ice To Snow (Slaraffenland covers Efterklang)
- Postcard(Efterklang covers Slaraffenland)
- Falling Mirror
- Away
The EP itself is called Prinser & Vikinger Live at The Royal Danish Playhouse which, I'd imagine, translates to Princes and Vikings. The first track is an amalgamation (mash up) of Efterklang's 'Mirador' whilst 'Falling Mirror' is a similar mix of Slaraffenland's 'Mirror Mirror' and Efterklang's 'Falling Out. Here is what some of the local press had to say about things. Some of it you can work out for yourself, others you might need to use Google translate or something. It's quite good now!
Soundvenue.com - 6 of 6 stars! “en magisk duel”
Gaffa - 5 of 6 stars! “et fanastisk bekendtskab af vellyd og venlig legesyge”
Undertoner - 5 of 6 stars! “Med 10 mand på scenen var der plads til hidtil ukendte nuancer og lag i trommespil, messingblæsere, fløjter, elektronik og naturligvis vokaler, hvis harmonier eller enstemmige kordannelser ofte bar musikken alene.”
