It’s about this time in the year that you start looking cautiously ahead to what tracks will be following you around everywhere on the radio this summer. The usual Balearic sugar, no doubt, as well as one or two novelty hits, a couple of dull ‘indie anthems’ and ‘Two Doors Down’ by The Mystery Jets, with any luck.
While it’s highly unlikely Animal Collective’s new Water Curses EP, released here through Domino on the 5th of May, will find itself introduced by a gurning Scott Mills or some spod from Capital Radio going on about “another gorgeous day in the capital” over the coming months, it is tantalisingly close to being playlist friendly.
Reassuringly though, it neatly sidesteps ubiquity by way of being fucking weird. Wired? Yeah, that’ll do – still, go outside, warm yourself in sunshine and smog, peering into your screens will turn up nothing but pixels anyhow.
