The show features nine performers, male and female, each of whom plays the singer at a different stage of his life. Its first night at the Broadhurst Theatre in New York attracted a flood of critics, but many left underwhelmed.
The New York Daily News had the following to say:
"The image is so goofy that someone arriving late might imagine he had stumbled into (Monty Python's) Spamalot next door. Should you plop down 100 dollars for a theatre ticket or just stay home and listen to your old records? In the case of Lennon, the answer is easy: Light one up and put on the stereo."
But surely it can't be as bad as We Will Rock You? Anyway, don't expect Lennon to arrive on UK soil any time soon.
