Casiokids, being Norwegian, love Norwegian music. To champion music from the country they call Norge, they have compiled a mixtape of their very favourite acts from their homeland. They're also playing at The Great Escape this weekend at our co-hosted Export Norway show before playing Po Na Na at 8:45.
Norwegian artists we like:
Umgdongskulen - 'IDunno'
Funpunkdancerock, by three men that sound like....at least five men.
The Whitest Boy Alive - 'Keep A Secret'
Mr. Øye and his crew knows their way around a catchy tune.)
Lindstrøm - 'Where You Go I Go Too'
Magical builder. Also, we respect his use of field recordings with phaser effect. This got us into Ashra as well.
Lindstrøm Live @ Rough Trade London pt. 2 from Hometapes on Vimeo.
Jan Garbarek - 'Spiral Dance'
Sax! From his golden years. This one features fav viking drummer Jon Christensen.
MoHa! - 'It Burns Twice'
Noise heroes from Stavanger that rejected the concept of taxi volume at an early age.
Bjørn Torske - 'Møljekalas'
Torske (Cod), or Torskefar as he's often referred to (the codfather), is Bergen electro's godfather.
Favourite international acts that we've seen live in Norway:
Familjen - 'Kom Säger Dom'
Hard and sweet. Check also out Andreas Tilliander's new solo album!
Bob Hund - 'Fantastiskt'
We grew up with them, in the same way as our parents grew up with Beatles in the '60s.
Amadou & Mariam feat. K'Naan - 'Africa'
Mali lovebirds featuring rap help from Somalian K'Naan. Works a treat.
The Field - 'Over The Ice'
Minimalistic and tasteful catchyness that must be played very loud.
Metronomy - 'On Dancefloors'
Amongst the top 7 best songs of autumn 2008.
Jens Lekman - 'A Little Lost' (Arthur Russell cover)
A shout-out to yet another Swede, also with a sort of sub-shout-out to Mr. Russell. Beautiful kalimba version of one of Arthur's best tunes. Check out the documentary Wild Combination, out on DVD, blue-ray, Minidisc and laserdisc NOW!!!.
