Adventures Close To Home - a rather trendy club night at the Camden Barfly - has decided to start releasing singles, and this cut from New Yorkers Holy Hail will test the waters. ‘Born Of A Star’ is an insistent, throbbing track, where a post-punk bassline buzzes its way through synthesized rhythms as vocalist Cat speak-sings an innocent, playful vocal. The message is far from innocent, mind, discussing issues of soulless teenage sex .
But if you’re off your tits on a dance floor, you’re probably unlikely to heed the warning as you make shapes. This is a repetitive and sparse song that lands somewhere between New Order and The Gossip - pure disco fodder that doesn’t really work coming out of your home stereo, but would sound massive at the club that’s releasing it.
maybe
just maybe i should have gone to see them in Reading then.
