The pyrotechnics for which Rammstein are so well known can almost be seen through their songs, so strong is the association. ‘Mann Gegen Mann’ is yet another heady mix of angry, whispered melodies and harshly grunted metal choruses, all set to a backdrop of thundering riffs that almost march through the speakers.
Despite this single being plucked from the Berliners’ most recent opus, Rosenrot _– a collection of songs leftover from 2004’s _Reise, Reise sessions – it still has the stoic mark of solid heaviness emblazoned upon it. The Germans enjoy living _“on the edge of bad taste” _and this tale of _‘Man Against Man’ _stutters along a ledge of homosexually influenced innuendo. In _your _endo, et cetera.
It is one of the few slabs of unyielding monstrosity that can be found on the album and is an obvious single choice. However, despite Rammstein cracking the Top 40 singles chart exactly a year ago with ‘Keine Lust’, it's unlikely that this release will rise to the same levels.
