Elbow

Powder Blue

Label: V2 Release Date: 09/07/2001

462
afrankowski by Andy Frankowski July 12th, 2001

From the opening notes of the piano to ending sound of a glass being smashed this song will take you into Elbow's world and it's well worth the trip.

'Powder Blue', the second official single off their outstanding debut 'Asleep In The Back' gives only a peek into what this band is capable of. Guy Garvey's haunting voice lets you know everything will be aright, "I'm proud to be the one you hold when the shakes begin" The gently played guitar only adds to the beauty to this simple yet amazing song. It offers up a chilling sound that shares pieces of Coldplay and earlier Radiohead while creating a sound all its own. Based on a couple the band once saw "We never get so close to death, Makes you so alive, I share it all with you". The words stur up darky beautiful emotions.

The two B-sides closing the single, 'Suffer', and 'About Time (Acoustic)' are also outstanding.
