This is amazing. How can I begin to describe the amount of complexity and staggering musicianship that forms Drowningman’s sound? Building on the amazing standard set on the ‘How They Light Cigarettes In Prison’ EP released earlier this year R&RKM tosses and turns itself round complex rhythms & rabid scalic passages leaving you gasping for breath before the next battering.
Drowningman are kind of like Dillinger Escape Plan jamming w/ Glassjaw and introduce some interesting melodies as a result. Take album highlight ‘Rock and Rock Killing Machine’ w/ it’s ingenious textured polyphony adding a unique dimension to of intensity to the mix. An explanation as to why they sound so angry could be that during the writing & recording of R&RKM several tape machines and several other pieces of expensive equipment as well as 1 1986 Dodge van were either broken or stolen. Angry is not the word. Their non-stop barrage of pummelling mathcore rhythms and frenetic riffing constantly headbutts you for half an hour, and well, I kind of liked it.
