The Farm's 'Altogether Now' is to be the official song for the England football team at this summer's Euro 2004 competition in Portugal, it was announced today.

The Football Association revealed 'Altogether Now' has been remixed by garage DJ/producer and Radio 1 presenter DJ Spoony and will feature additional vocals by the St Francis Xavier Boys’ Choir, Liverpool.

In a statement, The Farm's singer/songwriter Peter Hooton said: "It’s a fantastic honour to have our song chosen to be the official England anthem."

'Altogether Now 2004' will be (re-)released on May 31st. Needless to say it isn't very good. It'll probably get trounced in the charts by the XFM-backed 'Born In England', written by listeners J & D Wheatley and to be recorded by various members of The Libertines and Supergrass. The Farm's 'All together now' has the main lyric "All together now, in no-mans land" doesn't it? I wonder if they'll change that to something terrible like "All together now, in En-G-Land"...

lets have a heated debate!

i have a slight issue with rereleasing a song as the footie anthem....if we can't break the mold of the past through music then what chance have we of doing it through football....???for that reason England are gonna crash out pretty quick. quicker than usual that is.

Tho I am counting my blessing those chavscumciderfuelledfightnedperryscooterridingnikewearingnicknamestealingwannabeeidiotsblazingsquad didn't get it.

It'll be 'All together now, for En-ger-land", because it was, unless I'm mistaken, used as a cup final song for Everton, it may not have been done by the same band but who knows.
"All together now, for Ev-er-ton", being the lyric them.

I like 'Born in England' but there was another one with a fuck off big chorus that I can't now remember, that was good too. Hang on, a quick shufty at xfm.co.uk later and it was 'Goal 4 England', which came second anyway. Won't make the b-side though...
