Scandinavia seems to be having a bit of a musical renaissance of late. There's a steady stream of amazing bands appearing on the radar, from the tinkling Icelandic electronica of Kira Kira to the doomy drone-metal of Altaar, to the face-searing, arch rock 'n' roll of Norwegian upstarts Ungdomskulen.
But perhaps bands like these were always there, it's just that awareness of the Scandinavian scene has improved here in the UK. If that's true, it's thanks in no small part to events like Ja Ja Ja, a monthly night dedicated to bringing the best and brightest new Scandi bands to London for packed out one-off gigs.
Operating since November '09, Ja Ja Ja is busting out of its monthly Lexington programme with a special event over at Notting Hilll's hallowed Tabernacle. Presenting four well established talents from Denmark, Iceland, Finland and Sweden as a part of the International Live Music Conference, the show promises to be buzzing.
On the menu is the crisp, symphonic indie of Huw Stephens favourites Hjaltalin; steaming hot shoegaze band The Megaphonic Thrift; electro-acoustic pop quintet Husky Rescue and "Danish grime princess" Lucy Love.
Seeing as Drowned In Sound's beloved editor Sean Adams curated a previous Ja Ja Ja night, we've teamed up again to offer two lucky DiSers a pair of tickets for the event. Answers not on a postcard. We won't read them. No postcards, you hear? To win, just tell us which two Finnish bands have graced the stage at Ja Ja Ja in the comments section below.
