UPDATED: Mojo Awards '07: dementia sets in
Why do they call them 'gongs'? Some people won 'gongs' at this year's Mojo Awards.
Once again, the ceremony was more a depressing exercise in brand identification than anything else; only a third of the awards actually bearing any direct relevance to music in 2007.
Here are the results. Roll on that retro drum till it breaks.
Woman of the Year: Amy Winehouse
Song of the Year: Amy Winehouse, 'Rehab'
Best Album: The Good, The Bad and The Queen, The Good, The Bad and The Queen
Best Live Act: Arcade Fire
Breakthrough Act: Seasick Steve
Mojo Maverick: Echo and the Bunnymen
Cult Hero: The Only Ones
Prestigious Inspiration: Bjork
Innovation in Sound: Suicide
Hall of Fame Inductee: Alice Cooper
Best Legend: Ike Turner
Classic Album: Bob Marley, Exodus
Lifetime Achievement: The Stooges
Outstanding Contribution to Music: Joy Division
Icon Award: Ozzy Osbourne
Mojo, then; a Suicide up from Q. Let's hope the latter follows suit, eh?

Mojo in 'liking old music' shocker!
also, the 'bearing any direct relevance to music in 2007' bit made me gag. Thankz

The old one. I can't find it, but here is the opening without it...

Just because.
what???
they're going completely against what they're meant to stand for!! Only Bob Marley is black.. and he's not even alive any more. RUBBISH!
MOBO / MOJO
easily confused!
They gave 'Suicide' a gong
I declare them better than the Q awards
.....
:$
More pointless awards
How have they got 4 awards for virtually the same thing? Hall of Fame Inductee / Lifetime Achievement / Outstanding Contribution to Music / Icon Award.
Surely the point of those awards is to celebrate something actually special, having four of them just diminishes their worth. These mojo awards are just about the most pointless ones around apart from the people who went along and got a load of free drink.
yeyeyeyeyeye!
Best Album: The Good, The Bad and The Queen, The Good, The Bad and The Queen
breakthrough act
seasick steve---guys a legend...good to see a 68+year old can still be a breakthrough act when all nme looks at is under twenties...
Mojo Maverick
Contradictory, surely?
You have to love an awards ceremony
which includes Best Legend as a category.
And the nominations for Best Legend are...
and who choose their best legend to be...
someone who beat up his wife...good choice...*ahem* -
New Award
Best prestigous hero legendary contribution to music of the year
Hahaha!
I actually thought you were joking!
do they even sell mojo anymore?
i havent seen it anywhere in ages. Q you see all the time. next to about 4 gold colored overpriced "special" edititons. but i havnet seen mojo in the shops.
maybe my brain has just started blanking it out because it's SO RUBBISH.
I can't wait
to find out what 2008's Classic Album is going to be.
