Ben Lee: Ripe this autumn

Ben Lee is to return with a new record, Ripe, in the autumn.

The album is the follow-up to 2005's Awake is the New Sleep and features contributions from Mandy Moore, as well as reps from Rooney, Nickel Creek and Good Charlotte. Which, considering he used to knock around with Thurston Moore and Claire Danes, must be something of a downer. A veritable kick in the galoshes.

Anyway, tracklisting:

'Love Me Like the World is Ending'
'American Television'
'Birds and Bees'
'Is This How Love's Supposed to Feel?'
'Blush'
'Numb'
'What Would Jay-Z Do?'
'Sex Without Love'
'Home'
'So Hungry'
'Just Say Yes'
'Ripe'

Tour dates will be announced soon, and a documentary chronicling the past seven years of Lee's life will be released in 2008; featuring interviews from Moore, Danes, Winona Ryder and Liz Phair.

was he in the bens?

or am I thinking of someone else. You know, the band with Ben Kweller and Ben Folds...

considering

2 of the related stories are about the bens, I guess so. I am an idiot.

his problem is

he's a good co-writer when he's stuck with someone like dando or kweller, but his albums are generally awful with just one or two good songs.

He's actually

an amazing observational songwriter in his own right (bear in mind he wrote 'All My Life' for Dando by himself) when he's on form. But it's fair to say that his albums often feel like experiments that have only partially succeeded, in varying degrees. Something To Remember Me By and Breathing Tornados are probably the most pleasing.

Breathing Tornados

is ace if you ignore some of the more excruciating lyrical turns.

He's great live, too.

YES!

ah, the Bens. saw them at that one tour they did in australia. 'twas so much fun.

i adore the two bens. ben lee however i have an irrational hatred of and find sooo annoying...

Noise Addicts...

were great! Ben's first solo album is also good stuff. Now he's turned into some pretentious monster.

I'm not convinced

that he'll ever write a song as good as 'Cigarettes will kill you'.
