how DIS seems to have decided Mika to be the hate figure of the moment, and how you're dropping in nasty comments on the site whenever possible. The best way to stop people having interest in or buying an artist's work (which is presumably the aim) is just to stop mentioning them - not to constantly bang on about them for comedy points. That just smacks of arrogance and some kind of weird ulterior motive.

It's sometimes worth remembering that, even if they're making truly awful music, musicians at any level are *real people*, and it can be genuinely hurtful if bileful hate is directed at you over and over again. I often see good, balanced reviews on here, as well as comments suggesting how constructive criticism is good instead of just saying "this is shit because I think it's shit". In this instance, no matter who it is aimed at, it's beginning to feel a bit too much.

you know what else is funny? Mister Diver has been slagging off Mika for all eternity, but it's Dobson who gets detention.. NAUGHTY GARETH.

honestly, opening with "looks like a diseased leo sayer" is pretty childish and cruel (though i'd be lying hugely if i said it didn't make me laugh). imagine if someone opened a review of the gossip album with something like "looks like lucy van pelt after a barrel of cream cheese has been pumped into her arsehole" or something. actually that'd be pretty funny too

im in a band. i wouldnt expect everyone to ike my music, and weve had a couple of people criticise our album.

but if some reviewer started laying into me or one of my band members, id be pretty upset to be honest.
its just out of order.

Personally i'm fairly proud of the fact that ive never taken part in a public propaganda spectacle for that waste-of-tax we call the royal family. If it was to raise money for the NHS then maybe i'd feel differently.

this is about free speech. If a journalist thinks an artist is crap he has every right to say so. People like Brian May cant just wade in there and say he cant express his opinions. All right, the appearance attacks were a little off hand. But DiS reviewed the album, for DiS readers, and said it wasnt good, Like they have every right to.

This one was pretty fair I thought, basically saying that Mika should signal the end of 'ironically' liking utter shit...

There's too much to read to get involved...
But while BM is an incredible guitarist, composer and musician, he obviously believes that humour and music journalism should be mutually exclusive. One imagines that when it came to discussing the Frank Zappa adage 'Does Humour Belong In Music', p'raps Bri and Fred might have been on different sides of the debate?
