The Rumours are true, Urusei Yatsura Split!
Posted:
After many rumours of an impending split, Urusei Yatsura have sadly confirmed these to be true with the following statement on their official website.
"You have probably heard rumours about a U.Y. split and it is with real sadness that we have to confirm that Urusei Yatsura has disbanded. It is not easy being a full-time band and many factors have contributed to our decision.
Graham is now working on solo material while Ian, Elaine and Fergus are to continue working together under a different name. None of us felt it appropriate for any of us to continue using the name Urusei Yatsura since we think it is a unique band that depended on all our contributions.
We feel our three albums, numerous singles and other releases are a great achievement and a triumph over the capriciousness of the music industry. We would like to thank everyone who has enjoyed our songs, shown support or worked with us over the past few years. The affection and encouragement we received means a great deal to us and sustained us through difficult times. We hope you can take as much pleasure in all our future releases. In the meantime listen to the music and remember the great gigs. We still love you and please please don't ever get into Toploader.
It's been a fucking blast.
Love Urusei Yatsura"
Over the 9 years they have been together they have treated us lots a great records and cool gigs. It's sad that they are no more but now they will be taking on the pop industry on 2 fronts with Graham's and Ian, Elaine + Fergus's new projects.

The International Karate Plus is Arnold and Carter (formerly of Mo-Ho-Bish-O-Pi) with new drummer Sklav. They have released one fabulous EP (Karate Kills - available from their website) and are currently working on their debut album and shooting a video for their song 'Nexus in a Chain of Thought'.

Projekt A-Ko is Fergus, Elaine and Ian from zine-stars Urusei Yatsura. Their sound is very similar to that of UY and they have songs on Is This Music #1 compilation CD and also on Galant Records Compilation 'No More HiFi'. There is talk of an official release in the distant future. They are also playing at Stereo in Glasgow on Saturday 21st August as support to Simple Storm.

Panda Love Unit are from Birmingham, but don't retain Birmingham's dull pub-rock sound. They are making an impression with their angular sound, leaning towards early Seafood, or even Urusei Yatsura themselves. -

Aw, bye bye UY. I saw you playing in Gloucester with Applies in Stereo and it was a fine night indeed.
