V2005: Stage Times

The music ends at 11pm! Pathetic. I've got this image now of security guards telling everybody to go to bed in a big field.

Also the JJB Arena? I wonder how many of JJB's customers listen to Sonic Youth? The worst festival apart from Wireless surely.

V2005: Stage Times

The idea of giving SY a 50minute set is laughable - okay it's a festival but it seems like a strange choice for the 'Youth to play V, there's so many better places/festivals to play. They should be headlining.

V2005: Stage Times

this bill smells.

V2005: Stage Times

Super Furry Animals only getting 45 mins when headling a stage.

What the......

Re: V2005: Stage Times

I think Sonic Youth should be able to play any festival they like. Ok, it's nice when they play to all us snobs at ATP and the like but there they're hardly going to get themselves any new fans there while at V they've got a whole younger audience to play to, and if it leads to the kids buying Daydream Nation, Evol, Sister or Murray Street I'm all for it. The V lineup is almost better than the Reading and Glastonbury ones anyway. I still like Reading as I've been going since I was an ickle teen punk fan but Truck and ATP are the places to be.

V2005: Stage Times

Joss Stone playing after Idlewild.

What the.......

V2005: Stage Times

it very literally beggars belief.
whatever that might mean.

Re: V2005: Stage Times

Um, Joss Stone, however rubbish is popular right now. Idlewild are sinking faster with every passing month. It's not exactly complicated.

V2005: Stage Times

looks mostly shit

Re: V2005: Stage Times

The ONLY reason SY are playing V is because they get about thirty times more than they would playing ATP.

V2005: Stage Times

ROLL DEEP 3.10 - 3.35pm

So are they playing a 25min version of Heartbreak Avenue???

More stages, but a piss poor lineup

V2005: Stage Times

ROOSTER 12.30 - 1.00pm
IDLEWILD 1.25 - 2.05pm
TONY CHRISTIE 2.30 - 3.10pm
JOSS STONE 3.35 - 4.25pm

I wish I was there.

jesus.

V2005: Stage Times

I hope Thirteen Senses will get some TV coverage !!

V2005: Stage Times

JET 3.25 - 4.15pm
THE ZUTONS 4.40 - 5.40pm
MAROON 5 6.10 - 7.10pm

i wish i was there too.

mother of god.

V2005: Stage Times

i've been offered a free ticket and i'm still not tempted. No matter how amazing SY are, seeing them in ane empty tent before leaving to be surronded by Oasis fans is a fate worse than death...

V2005: Stage Times

Seeing as nobody else has said 'thanks for saving me money for that stupid necklace thing', allow me to do it.

V2005: Stage Times

That's a pretty terrible line up

V2005: Stage Times

Franz, SFA, Dizee Rascal, Polyphonic Spree, and M83 are the only acts playing I'd want to see.

V2005: Stage Times

texas above robert plant !!!!11111
oihrgoihwrgnobroytivauy *mad*

V2005: Stage Times

i want to see the frames. *cries*

V2005: Stage Times

I think there's some good stuff there.

V2005: Stage Times

I'm going. Not 100% why though. All the bands I really wanna see are ALL overlapping. Not happy

Re: V2005: Stage Times

The Roots are playing too

GIVE ME YOUR FREE TICKET

Please

Re: V2005: Stage Times

Hear hear! looking forward to seeing them in a half empty tent whilst everyone and their mother is foolishly watching the Kaiser Chiefs.

and cheers for saving me £8 or something ridiculous like that

Re: V2005: Stage Times

oh, and Sonic Youth.

V2005: Stage Times

bunch of twats

Re: V2005: Stage Times

i hope they die !!

V2005: Stage Times

i wouldnt say no to some camping, sonic youth and m83, so if anyone does have a free ticket, i'll say yes.

V2005: Stage Times

A pity that after all this nice weather we've been having, it's suddenly going cold on Friday (Thurs 26C, Fri 14C max) and chucking it fown for much of the weekend.

If that happens, it's five rainy festivals on the trot for me. I must be due a good one eventually...

Re: V2005: Stage Times

according to the chalets website, they're playing the volvic stage, staffordshire on saturday, chelmsford on sunday

V2005: Stage Times

I'll be there. V Stage is always rubbish, but you can only watch one stage at a time anyway. The second stage (Channel 4 this year) is always really good at Weston Park at least, because people sit in their chairs in their thousands watching the V Stage, and the second stage is in a far flung corner and you can always really easily get a good view of everything that you'd probably be miles away from at Reading. Plus when the weather's bad, it's never muddy there.

So basically, I just hang around the second stage and make the odd trip or two to the V stage (this year, Franz and Idlewild). Easy.

V2005: Stage Times

it's not so much that it's a shit line up, that's kind of expected, it's more that it's really really weird. idlewild must be thrilled to be sandwiched between rooster and tony christie.

check out Emiliana Torrini if you've not seen her before, she's amazing.

Re: V2005: Stage Times

>check out Emiliana Torrini if you've not seen her before, she's amazing.

Agreed. I was of the impression, from the little I had heard, that it was going to be classic mimsy singer/songwriter stuff. Then I got to see her for free as I was street teaming at her gig. And she was great.

V2005: Stage Times

Music, music, everywhere, and not a note worth listening to.

Did they make an extra-special effort to book the most abominably turgid shit available for this festival? I mean, it must take some effort to fill four stages over two days with absolute wank.

I can only afford to go to one festival this year, and it's in my pal's back garden - he gets all the best bands he knows personally to come down and play. It's great. And free.

Re: V2005: Stage Times

Cor! I would rather see Texas than some boring old hippy.

V2005: Stage Times

The line up for this looks quite good I thought. All festivals have stuff you won't like.

Surely this is quite a DIS friendly event with all your indie and stuff? Rather this than the boredom that the Glastonbury bill promises each year.

V2005: Stage Times

ohhhh... yeeaaaah. THAT'S why i've never so much as considered spending a weekend at V.

how easily the mind wanders.

roll the fuck on, reading.

V2005: Stage Times

Can't believe no-one wants to see The President Of The USA or Ray Lamontagne. They are the 2 stand out bands for me.

V2005: Stage Times

I'm going to this and I'm just going to say, sure there's some shite on the bill, but pick the bands wisely and you can make it into a great festival.

Tom Vek, Sonic Youth, M83, The Frames, KT Tunstall, SFA, Doves, Idlewild... then laugh at the people singing along to Joss Stone and Rooster...

V2005: Stage Times

This is one of the weakest festival lineups i've ever seen. Seriously. The only bands i'd pay to see i've already seen, apart from m83 and Dizzee.

V has always been Reading/Leeds lite, geared towards more mainstream listeneners.

V2005: Stage Times

Reading & Leeds are just as corporate - the website is full of adverts for Nokia, HMV, Carling, tiscali(?!).

The only stage that would hold me attention there is the Carling stage... Fucking Kasabian headlining... almost as bad as Oasis.

Re: V2005: Stage Times

I'm trying to hear and take in people'e arguments here that it could be ok.
But really, if I was to go no Sunday for example, to Chelmsford, everything would clearly NOT be ok.
Joss Stone or Chelsea v Arsenal? What a tough call.
And before you say it, tomorrow is definitely not worth missing Southend v Huddersfield for. Definitely not...

V2005: Stage Times

i actually like this bill more than a lot of the glastonbury lineup. the thing about V is, yeah it's incredibly commercial, but you do get some amazing gigs from certain bands. the pixies last year for example, the sun was going down, and it was really eerie when they started doing 'where is my mind'. brilliant.
also, the V organisers seem to be on acid when they organise the order of the bands - which is more comedic than anything. this year idlewild being stuck between rooster and tony christie for example. which usually ends up with erm, interesting results

V2005: Stage Times

boo to sonic youth clashing with kaiser chiefs. the weekend's only real legends clashing with the weekend's best singalong, kaisers have walked it at every festival this year love them or loathe them theyre great live, looking forward to super furries and ray lamontagne too. very strange line up, maybe I don't listen to heart fm or virgin or whatever but i don't know many of these bands. who are blizzards, perishers, alexis strum? never heard of any of them.

Re: V2005: Stage Times

yup, emilliana torrini was my glasto highlight in the guardian lounge this year. its great how she tells stories between the songs and appears incredibly nervous.
