DiS Barfly July: Two of the Best from Truck
Truck is over, but let us relive two of the festival's best at the Barfly this Friday!
Truck Nine: not only the best Truck Festival thus far, but one of the best all-round festival experiences of my musical life - which I'm sure is a widely held view.

Foals
Friday 28th July, 10:30pm until 3am.
£5 adv. (buy tickets) | £8 door
Camden Barfly, Chalk Farm Road, London NW1
Nearest tube: Chalk Farm / Camden Town
Having ploughed our way through six stages over two days, DiS has returned. We'll be throwing extensive coverage your way this week, but why not relive two of the best acts from the fest by popping along to this month's Barfly shindig for drinks and fun?
:(colonopenbracket brought emoticore bleepgasms to the Trailer Park tent on Saturday afternoon and were the perfect post-rain pick-me-up. Mart and his pair of accomplices take their 8-bit and douse it in energy and instrumentation. Their debut split single sold out mega-quick and, with a new EP on the horizon, this is the prime time for your fill of Scottish emo-electro.

Foals
Oxford's very own Foals closed proceedings in the Trailer Park on Sunday night, clawing the remaining energy from Truck's attendees in a cavalcade of math-rock-infused dance. With intrinsically crafted rhythms bellow beneath piercing hands-in-the-air melodies and battling guitars, Foals are surely the true "new rave".

Do come down, whether you hit Truck or not - it's like the Reader's Digest version of the festival, with less mud (good) but also fewer banana smoothies and doughnuts (bad). If you did go, please shower before coming too.
Add yourself to this freakin' gig here! Do it like you're Bono! Do it like you're Suggs!

How The Peacocks Lost Their Lips
You were loving Foals...
Mister "I'm totally fucked" Colin Roberts was dancing more than everyone else in the Trailerpark tent put together, which was pretty amusing. But not as funny as watching him get smacked by a naked friend (for not getting naked) on the way back to the campsite. That was funny.
this is pretty slanderous
I never at one point said "I'm totally fucked", but I did dance like a mother-hubbard, and rightly so.
That naked scramble with Get Cape will probably end up on YouTube soon, being as my girlfriend filmed it on her phone.
but the dancing was good
because foals are ACE
ps I finished all the wine in the world
sad face
were absolutely diabolical. she wasn't even touching the keys on the thing!
laughably awful.
i had
completely planned to go to this. and seafood the night after at joiners. then i realised i had to be in buggering kingswood for my girlfriends brothers wedding for the whole weekend.
Buggering Kingswood
they know how to name places round there!
I really do wish
I could come to this. It will be totally ace. 2 of the weekend's highlights for sure.
stupid name, rubbish band
I'll back up the person who slagged off sad face. Playing a computer keyboard hung off the neck is an awful pretentious idea. But worst of all were the nu-metal style vocals. Couldn't have been long until he started singing about how his parents force him to clean his room.
Full cred to him though for going crowd surfing during Forward Russia.
he didn't have much choice
with get cape grabbing him by the knees and hoisting
particularly enjoyed colin screaming "Oh GROW UP" to the ker-azy kids slam dancing at foals
i really liked :(
and missed foals. so i likey this.
this
should be fun. I'll need to fish out my skinny black jeans...
ARGH!
HOW DO ALL YOU PEOPLE KNOW WHO I AM?
i
wanna go
ummm ......
... the 4 pictures in the program were a big clue (as was waving to emmy the great after she dedicated a song to you)
price of fame, my friend
?
Because a keyboard is not a musical instrument and anyone who says so is clearly a..
...
person who doesn't take the music so seriously. Jesus people, enjoy it for what it is!
nah
slander is oral, not written.
anywayz, i saw that martin colonopenbracket last night. yes yes, i know all the starz.
:(
The worst thing about sad face was the way the girl with the keyboard round her neck was so obviously miming! I wouldnt have minded if she was actually triggering anything with it.
:(
could be the geratest band ever, a mix of everything amazing, but that name can fuck itself.
the things is...
she IS triggering stuff (see thread aboot this in the forums bit). its keymapping and someone with better understanding of such matters can probably explain it better than a technophobe such as myself.
having been present at a couple of :( soundchecks I can stick my hand firmly on my heart and say that with all honesty that there's a whole bunch of noises and patterns triggered by the keyboard.
of course, this being a modern messageboard populated by the type of folks who generally use messageboards, you'll believe what you want and probably don't view the opinions of other with any validity whatsoever, that's my experience so i dont' even know why i'm bothering to respond.
fuck it.. while i'm here, i may as well squeeze some usefulness out of it, so some info;
YES... the spilt single did sell out super fast from our distributor, but we kept a few back for mailorder. that 'few' has seemingly now dwindled to about 30 copies. 30 or so copies and that's it gone forever (with i could say that for the more of our releases cos then there'd be some room and less stuff to pack in the van when we move office). So if anyone's still needing...
:(
Can anyone tell me what time :( is on?
Cheers
supposed to be...
12.30
like i said... supposed to be.
:(
Thanks
Who
is going to this tonight???? All of my friends are busy and I might come to this on my own if I know there will be friendly people there...???
good good...
we can spend the evebing debating how difficult it is being IanJ's in a world seemingly obsessed with IanR's and IanT's.
So...
You are an IanJ too! A rare find - hurrah! So what's the MD stand for?
I'm assuming
the MD stands for Must Destroy, :('s record label, right?
Anyway, all I have to do now is convince my friends that this is the place to be tonight.
well, even less now...
i managed to sell quite a few at the gig... so if people still want them, get moving to www.mustdestroymusic.com!
