DiS announces DiS stage at Wireless '05!

Hello you young festival scamps.

Drowned in Sound here announces our own Drowned in Sound Stage at this year's Wireless Festival in Hyde Park, London town.

Sitting just beneath the main and second (or XFM if you like) stages, the DiS stage (in conjunction with Drowned in Sound Recordings) serves a purpose of promoting new, young and up and coming bands in the country. Many of which we've championed in these here virtual pages with gusto and aplomb. Though not entirely completed, here's a good idea of what's coming up over the three days (we're not doing the Basement Jaxx day, cos like, we're rubbish at dance).

The line ups are as follows: (running order TBC on all days)

Friday 24th June (New Order day)

Yeti
Tegan And Sara
The Boxer Rebellion
Battle
The Rogers Sisters
Komakino

Wednesday 29th June (Keane day)

Martha Wainwright
New Rhodes
The Blue Van
The Shore
She Wants Revenge
Special Needs

Thursday 30th June (Kasabian day)

JJ72
Apartment
Mainline
Cherubs
Blackbud

You can buy tickets from www.ticketmaster.co.uk and an array of other usual ticket vendors.

Re: DiS announces DiS stage at Wireless '05!

Tragically I actually have that in my Outlook calendar...

You can also watch Eels, Van The Man (well, Van "once was the man" The Man) and FRANK BLACK on Jools.

Re: DiS announces DiS stage at Wireless '05!

And Kaiser Chiefs. Spookily the show was filmed a year to the day DiS released their debut single. Was a nice reunion. What a difference 12 months make.

Re: DiS announces DiS stage at Wireless '05!

You have unleashed a great evil on the world.

Re: DiS announces DiS stage at Wireless '05!

you don't fool me, thats sarcasm that is - and rightly so Special Needs are horrible shitty little coat tail riders I am embarrassed to even have heard of.

cock knockers to a man

Re: DiS announces DiS stage at Wireless '05!

We didn't pick very much of this. If you search the site tho Special Needs do have a few fans amongst our staff.

I'd better not mention Clear Channel again, had I?

:-)

Re: DiS announces DiS stage at Wireless '05!

Only if you want to also get into a debate about The Clash and Rage Against the Machine signing to Sony and Radiohead and Coldplay making trade fair and millions for EMI.

didnt Special Needs form in 1986 or something?

Re: DiS announces DiS stage at Wireless '05!

i think special needs are jolly splendid fellows.

Re: DiS announces DiS stage at Wireless '05!

2003.

so you were close.

Re: DiS announces DiS stage at Wireless '05!

No idea what they are like as people but haven't they missed the Libertines boat with all of the other bands snapped up by Alan McGee?

Re: DiS announces DiS stage at Wireless '05!

aside from the fact they sound fuck-all like the libertines.

they're signed to mercury now.

Re: DiS announces DiS stage at Wireless '05!

I meant that they identify with that whole scene.

McGee picked them up. Aren't Mcgee/Mercury/Vertigo all mixed up together anyway.

Re: DiS announces DiS stage at Wireless '05!

Do EMI and Sony fund Dubya too?

Ah sorry, I'll stop now.

Re: DiS announces DiS stage at Wireless '05!

So who did pick it then?

Re: DiS announces DiS stage at Wireless '05!

Martha, Battle, Komakino, Apartment and Cherubs.
We ok'd a few of them as the site has been supportive/championed the acts.

I have to concede there are a couple of bands I've never heard of (nor written about) and at least 1 not mentioned here, who we really don't like.

But then, it's a festival with Keane and Kasabian playing, not All Tomorrows Parties or Meltdown, Coachella, Truck or even Reading, so it's a little different to what DiS is all about, but a baby step towards making DiS a more 'known' name.

Overall the whole festival does have a very DiS feel, especially the X-fm stage with Rilo Kiley and The Dears, Ladytron and Do Me Bad Things.
