Quiet you.
I can't impress the DiS women if you ask questions that expose my ignorance. This is like that time I read a feminism book on the tube but on my Kindle instead of in paperback :(

Its the shortened, PC version of sissy
"cissy" so as not to offend any sisters that might be reading

I prefer to say I don't adhere to the arbitrary dichotomy of 'male' or 'female'
or some other shit that will make women want to sleep with me

this thread is a growing, fluid organism
all options can be added and thissed

The OP gave two options
Why's nobody saying gender queer? !?!!!
-
yeah, but that was for my snow leopard impression
nothing to do with gender
-
gender isn't about your sex organs is it?
i don't think i understand all this properly
-
Why are you not saying gender queer
You'#re the real problem here
-
chickenbones this'd this

Let's not start
You can be whatever you want to be
Believe achieve
-
no it's about your identity
anatomy doesn't determine gender.
Loads of people don't define as male or female so imagine what its like filling out a simple form (or anything?) where we're given 2 options of male or female and sometimes 'other' and being either forced to tick the wrong box and be misgendered by everyone you interact with or ticking a box called 'other' and feeling like you're seen as a weirdo whose actual identity doesn't really matter cause all that matters is fitting with the rigid gender binary.
We should just ask "what is your gender?" and let someone fill it in which wouldn't really be that complicated from a data gathering pov.

That's hwat i said

the original post has no options
after which, the original poster's suggestions are no more valid than anyone else's

OP was standing for original poster
they're not more valid but they suggest the extent to which the person who started this thread understands gender as more than two.

Male/female binary gender definitiions be damned, let's all be dragons!

OP might have been interrupted whilst posting
i have no reason to believe this particularly, but this is pretty uncharitable of you
-
I'm not gender queer
Sorry for remembering trans* people exist.

Hermaphrodite lady man ladies
with your sexy lady bits and your sexy man bits too

because while i don't think it
i don't think it's impossible.
also, you say you don't put the gender queer option yourself because it doesn't apply to you. the OP put male and female options himself, despite presumably not thinking both apply to him.MORBO this'd this -
you think this is bad? Sometimes forms don't have "Dr" as an option for title
So don't talk to me about oppression.
twentynine this'd this -
that's up to them
The point is genderqueer is just one of unlimited options for describing gender. I would put 'genderqueer' if that was what I was. But I'm not. So putting it down as an 'option' for other people, and not just letting them write their own gender down for themselves, is being unnecessarily prescriptive and stops us being able to see that gender is variable and something we don't have to put into predetermined categories.

I like this idea

but everyone *is* able to write down their own gender
so i really cannot for the life of me see what you're arguing against.
this issue is of course important, but this is a thread, in which anyone can write whatever they want, not a binary tick box on a job application form -
My Dad always told me that animals have a gender
(or objects in crazy European Languages) but than people have a sex (phnar). So you ask: 'what is the gender of that cat?' but 'what is the sex of that person?'
Seems like language has changed and most people now use gender for both. Maybe we're just too squeamish about sex.
-
just been reading about this recently
gender and genre essentially used to mean the same thing, ie, just any category.
gender started to be used in lingustics to give different endings to different nouns etc. some languages have over ten genders, denoting male, female, plant and whatever else they feel like categorising.in latin there were three genders: masculine, feminine and neuter and i believe olde englishe had this as well.
they slowly fell away in english, butg remain in most european languages and masculine and feminine, so "gender" came to apply much more to actual masculinity and femininity, rather than the arbitrary decision for the french to call a desk feminine.
anyway, linguists still use gender to mean the linguistic categorising system, and people dealing with human identity use it to mean the prescribed characteristics typically associated with sex and identity.

you're complaining that no one has said genderqueer, and you won't say genderqueer because you're not genderqueer, maybe no one's genderqueer. w/e the fuck genderqueer means.
also, think you might be taking this thread a TAD too seriously. -
HA GOOD
ITS AN EASY READ ISNT IT?
think the exact bit i'm paraphrasing is about 2/3 of the way into it -
yup
am a bit further on than that now.
It is, although i tend to read it on my way to/from work so am usually tired and brain not work nice. -

he's not reinforcing gender binary any more than
everyone who identifies as male or female is, in identifying themselves thus
-
what
that's a really weird and wrong way to look at this.
you can be male or female in in a way that still accounts for and allows other possibilities.
-
Even you must be into you
-oo-oo
-
no, no you see, actually it's you that's weird and wrong!
he hasn't disallowed possibilities at all. im not replying any more, because i've said this too many times and you're ignoring it. my opinions on what matters in this discussion are identical to yours. the only difference is that you've bestowed some weird authority on pichael_marker whereby only his posts count as "official" options or something. "^this" threads on this board typically start with the OP making some suggestions, and then other people coming up with their own suggestions. nothing is stopping an otherkin posting "otherkin" and then thising that, if they have any interest in DiS knowing that they're otherkin.

It does strike me as a bit arrogant
to start making genders up just because you think you don't comply enough to have to tick a box on a form. It should say 'sex' which is different from gender, but if genderqueer is an Actual Thing I think it needs to be in the public consciousness a lot more before people can officially identify as it. I would've thought most people would have seen their gender as a point on an axis.
