Is the battle against illegal file-sharing being won?
I found out yesterday that Demonoid is now officially down. It had been offline for a couple of months, but it's only recently been confirmed that Ukrainian authorities were responsible, and Demonoid's domain names are now up for sale. The Pirate Bay is (in theory) inaccessible from the UK due to an ISP-wide ban. YouTube and Soundcloud both automatically block the upload of copyrighted material using digital fingerprinting.
There'll always be ways around such measures, but eventually, the casual consumer will get bored of looking for them, no? They'll decide the hassle of setting up a proxy or looking for a brand new site isn't worth the £5 saving.
