The Weekend (City balls it up) Football Thread.
Here it is then, the weekend that City fail to beat Newcastle's best team in a century and provide the nation with conclusive proof that they're not fit to lace Yernited's boots. The weekend that leads to the tabloid journos changing tac on how way the entire season's gone for both clubs - cracks papered over on the Red side, "storms ahead" for the same City side they've been getting giddy over for most of the campaign.
The opportunity for United fans to rewrite history and pretend our fans were celebrating the title prematurely on Monday rather than just winning Teh Biggest Derby Ever is too good to miss. Simply, there's more humour in City losing it from here than United doing so. More headlines. Even we can appreciate that.
For me, its just a shame we've got such a difficult fixture NOW. Virtually any other away game, bar probably Everton, but even Spurs, Arsenal, a trip to Anfield - i'd be confident, but Newcastle are too good, on form and especially at home, and it's a huge game for them as well, let's not forget. Cisse's gonna shoot us down.
United will beat Swansea, of course. They'll probably get a hatload, but they'll certainly win, you can put your house on that. Them following us on Sunday will just make it all the more excrutiating for most Blues. Not for me, though, i've known since the end of January that we weren't going to win the title, so i'll just clear up at the bookies and drink heavily. Ultimate winner.
Anyway, elsewhere, Arsenal will maul Norwich to all but clinch 3rd. Spurs ought to do Villa, QPR have to beat Stoke, and Bolton v West Brom could be twitchy for Verbal.
As for the Cup Final. Drogba will score, but i think Liverpool will get there by hook or by crook and sneak it, maybe even on penners. Sort of hope it's a cracking game to prove the mongs (myself included) wrong. Hope those who go have a good day. As much as we all slag it, seeing your team win THE CUP at the home of English football is still a phenomenal experience.
Arsenal 3 Norwich 0
Newcastle 2 City 1
Villa 1 Spurs 2
Bolton 2 West Brom 2
Fulham 3 Sunderland 1
QPR 1 Stoke 0
Wolves 1 Everton 2
United 6 Swansea 1
Liverpool 1 Chelsea 1 (Liverpool on pens).
Other games of note include the last day in League 1 & 2, the Milan derby & Heerenveen v Feyenoord.
