i watched the film 'A History of Violence' last night...
I don't think i've ever known a film to start off so promising but lose the plot in such fashion. I'd seen the trailer and was expecting great things, but the wheels fell off about halfway through and it ended up turning into a huge steaming pile of shite.
Some really quite exquisite violence, must admit. Viggo was pretty good, and absolutely destroyed a couple o' guys faces, but the pace of the film was all wrong, and the storyline really didn't go where i was thinking it would, and by the time he decided to drive to his brother's house i'd completely lost interest. I can't remember Irish-American gangsters really working in many films (maybe Road to Perdition, possibly The Departed, i've not seen Miller's Crossing) but William Hurt's Channel 5 version of Tony Soprano was just painful. No idea how he got nominated for an Oscar, ffs.
I beleive there was a bit of kick-off about one of the sex scenes, with Cronenberg destroying some bint who wrote it was too rapey. Not sure. Came after a tussle between man and wife, sure, but she must've missed all the kissing/her taking his pants off and shit, idk. Anyway, hopefully one of the Femidom Three won't stick their oar in and turn this into a 300-post hate thread again. I'd much rather talk about the first sex scene, that was SEXY AS FUCK. I don't agree that either scene was out of place or unecessary, really.
Thought the wife was pretty good actually. Oooosh. The younger actors were all just reeeeeally annoying, though.
Okay, but should've been so much better.
