Doing a PhD.
Hey y'all.
I'm thinking of doing a PhD. Here's my situation: I'm on the cusp of finishing a distance learning Masters which I need to progress further in my career. I have, during the last 6 months, applied for a few jobs but have got nowehere due to not finishing the Masters (I've asked for feedback from rejections and they have all said this). Added to this, jobs I'm qualified for ATM / will be qualified for when I'm done *rarely* come up, which is why I'm considering a PhD - a certain university is offering a few fully-funded places to do research in an area I'm really interested in, actually, the topic I'm writing my Masters dissertation on.
I'm just wondering whether it's a good idea: it's taken me nearly 4 years to do a distance learning Masters (I've had a full time job), it'd probably be really fucking hard to just survive on the busary alone in London, and another issue is that I'll be 27 this year and I'm not sure it really fits in with my entire life plan (and it definitely doesn't fit in with my boyfriend's for that matter). And of course, there's the issue of workload and being able to actually do it. On the other hand, going into academia in my chosen field really REALLY appeals to me, and I've enjoyed doing my Masters dissertation; if I could further some research in a similar area then I think I might very much enjoy it.
Oh DiS, whtat to do? Thanks for all help / advice in advance.
