Help me with a weird problem I'm having...
It's a very odd story.
So, a few weeks ago, I got an email telling me someone called Ossian5 was following me on Twitter. Ossian, as if you didn't know, was the name of a supposed ancient Irish poet, which a guy in the 18th century claimed to have translated. It was a bit of a literary sensation, until people started to suspect it was a hoax which the guy had made up, which is still contested today, but I digress.
Anyway, this guy, Ossian5, follows about seven people, has no followers, but tweets quite a lot of old Gaelic poetry - quite often specifically aimed at me, and far too odd to just be spam. Last night, curiosity got the better of me, and I replied, saying it was charmingly surreal but why was he sending me hoax poetry? This prompted him to exclaim it wasn't a hoax, and ask me if I was a confederate of Dr Johnson (who famously doubted the validity of the translations). This turned into a bout of back and forth banter with various highbrow literary allusions, with him apparently very delighted with my scholarly references.
But I'm still confused as fuck about who this guy is and why he's doing all this stuff at me.
So, I was thinking some of you guys could follow him (@Ossian5) and start asking him some questions, quoting some highbrow stuff - see how he gets on with it basically, and relieve the pressure on me in this post-modern, Kafkaesque farce.
