Football thread (minor): things only you seem to remember
Found an old VHS tape the other day of various clips and oddities from when I had two VCRs connected together for hardcore tape-to-taping, and spinning through it I found something from one of those classic Villa-Brum games of 2002-03. The St Andrews game was where Peter Enckelman let the throw-in under his foot and into the net, but this was from the match at Villa Park when Dion Dublin headbutted Robbie Savage and got sent off, as did a team-mate as Birmingham won 2-0.
That wasn't the clip, tempting as it must have been. What it was was Graham Taylor's post-match interview on Sky (it was a live Monday night game and I recorded the overnight re-run), which ran something like this:
George Gavin: "Graham, a bad night for your side?"
Graham Taylor: "I believe in talking to the press after a game, and I know I have to do that, but I will not be answering any questions."
At which Graham Taylor turns round and walks off, ignoring Gavin's confused pleas. Odd thing is, given the sheer bizarreness of Taylor doing an interview in which he announces he won't be doing an interview nobody online or in the papers referred to it at all the next day, and I have proof I didn't dream it.
So yeah, stuff like that you know about but doesn't seem to be archived much.
