Boring question related to Erasmus, university, france, philosophy, dissertations, foreign languages, and administration. If any of that interests you.
BACK STORY:
The title of my degree is french and philosophy. For my 3rd year i've got to go to a french uni and take courses in generic french subjects to make up my credits over here for french. For philosophy the option is to either do a 10000 word dissertation for the start of 4th year or to take a certain number of philosophy classes in france.
I was told by the french department that because of the language barrier it would be sensible to take 2nd and 1st year courses while abroad, though the philosophy department werent happy with that and wanted only 3rd year courses. There arent enough exclusively 3rd year philosophy courses at the french uni to make up the amount of credits, so i've either got to cut a bargain with them or do the dissertation, which frightens me. The courses over there look so much better than here though.
Summary: is it worth risking taking final year courses in france which look really fun but build on the courses of the previous 2 years (which I wont have done as they teach philosophy different over there) or do a dissertation which I have no clue about because the first two years of philosophy here are basically a piss take (lecturer for metaphyics admitted to not know answer to question then said it was ok because it wasnt his area of study and he only learned the stuff to give the lectures) and i have no idea how to write a vaguely in depth essay of that kind.
Summary of summary: help me please. Anyone studied abroad or something?
