Who do I vote for?
Ok, so i've been trawling through the summaries of each party's policies, trying to find which of them my personal opinions align with the most. But I'm getting no-where. Perhaps you can help?
I believe (in order of priority as i see it):
Economy:
I like the Tories talk of an international agreement to restrict banks, but am wary of doing anything similar at a solely national level since so much of our income comes from the city and the related services industries. I think raising taxes for the very rich is a good idea, but redusing taxes for the poor is a bad idea because everybody needs to pay a little towards the country, however modest a sum. I fundamentaly don't agree with a system which effectively punishes people for being rich, so long as anyone with desire and talent can become rich. I agree with reducing inheritance tax though - just seems wrong to me.
The deficit should be massively reduced ASAP by cutting benefit payments accross the board and by cutting spending in education and local authority/council staff and resources.
Defence:
I support our troops in Afghanistan but am keen to see an end to the fighting ASAP. I believe defence spending should be increased, particular wrt the royal navy and air force spending. This can be paid for via a scrapping of the proposed replacement for Trident which I believe to be a collosal waste of money in the 21st century.
Environment:
Very keen for the country to meet its targets in thus respect, but believe this should be done so by fully embracing nuclear technology. No new coal power stations should be built.
Constitutional reform:
Not sure about this, though I do support reducing the size of the state generally (reducing the number of MPs included)
