In the CYE final episodes...
does the Seinfeld "reunion" count as events that have actually happened in the Seinfeld universe? ie. is THIS the legitimate reality of the characters - as opposed to one where they were not ressurected? There's no doubt it is the same set of characters; they're being puppeteered by their original authors (although different authors can write the same characters).
I'm just not sure what layer of reality this extrapolation of Jerry and friends exists on. If Seinfeld is already an unreality, why does it matter that the new scenes are being created as part of a text purporting to be by a fake version of Larry David? Can the fictional version of Larry David not 'write' the script of Seinfeld by proxy for the real Larry David? Is it not still Larry David writing it all the same? Does it matter that they are making the reunion for NBC, but it's being aired on HBO?
I think it maybe depends on what you consider the 'text' to be; either the recordings of what is claiming to be a true Seinfeld, or alternatively the performance of the characters on the set taking on the roles of and becoming the characters. I'm inclined to take the latter interpretation. idk
What do you think? Thoughs plz? Quid Juris? Hmmmmmm
