Help me solve a knotty plot problem, please much?
So I'm at the start of the second act of my film script. It's a pile of dogshit, but that doesn't matter - the point is that I'm determined to finish it, good or bad.
It's basically a comedy-of-horrors type thing. Misunderstandings begat misunderstandings, etc.
Problem is, after only 40 pages it's become so ridiculously convoluted that I'm worried about how complicated it'll become by page 90.
I know where I want the story to go, but what's bugging me is that even as I'm writing it I'm getting this sinking feeling...it's riddled with holes. At first I thought I could cover this by having the characters point out how stupid the events are, but that's too post-modern-meta-art-wankery for my tastes.
I can't think of an alternate route to take, either. My characters aren't behaving the way I want them to. It really feels like they're out of my control. So my question is, do I just write the damned thing and at least finish it, or scrap it entirely and think of another idea?
Bear in mind that it took me two months to come up with this fucking thing and now it looks like it's a no-go deal. I can write pretty good dialogue and action...it's the story that fucks me up. I can't tell a story for shit.
So, scrap it or carry on?
