i've decided i don't like plot twists
i get no joy from someone tugging down my briefs in the third reel
it's high stakes stuff i supposse...if you rest everything on that reveal and it leaves with a whimper, you're fucked....in turn, a weak film can get by on a stonking twist.
but i thought...if the soprano's finale can give me that, mouth agape, sitting up straight starring at the blank screen feeling...with no real twist to talk of....then are plot twists lazy writing? does it take a more skilled writer to tug at your stomach without resorting to scooby doo tactics.
but then, even dickens used a cheeky nipple twist with maggers turning up years later as pipsqueaks benefactor. so it's not like the plot twist is purely the reserve of crap american remakes of japanease horror, british crime thrillers called 'chrome post-mortem', and sprawling boxset fodder.
i dunno....someone help me out. the plot twist. what's that all about eh?
maybe we could make up a set of rules about the plot twist....do's and do not's
