DiS 11-a-side football - the post-match thread (6th Sept edition)
Red 5-4 Blues
Perhaps it was the wind, or the (understandable) lack of understanding with the new players, but the quality of this match didn't come up to the standard of previous games. It was scrappy, and there weren't too many passing moves, to be honest. The Reds id really well to go in 3-2 up at the break as they were playing against a strong wind, which really seemed to punish the Blues in the second half (there were long periods in which they couldn't get it out of their half, despite numerous attempts to simply hoof the ball away).
Two of the Blues goals were probably my fault. Well, I'll share the blame. I came for the corner and missed it, but that doesn't really excuse the fact that Will was stood there completely unmarked, and on the second goal I should have stayed back, as the ball held up just outside the area and left me stranded. Oh well.
Notable moments:
- the build up to the Reds' first goal which left Rich on his backside.
- Crablin's first goal, and the clinical way in which it was finished.
- The Blue team getting increasingly annoyed with their inability to get the ball away and build an attack.
- Bamos' miss from 1 yard out that left six Red team players collapsed on the ground in anguish as if the pitch had been struck by lightning.
- me getting hacked off with the kids playing on the edge of our pitch and hoofing their ball away, only for it to slice off of the outside of my boot, catch the wind and get wedged up in the top of a tree. Oops.
Scorers:
Um, I can't remember these. I know that Crablin (Reds), Will (Blue), Bamos (Reds), Kaka (Reds) and Hedges (Blue) scored, but someone else will have to fill in the blanks.
Man of the Match - my vote would, once again, go to jack_el_biscuit or Ed - both really solid and great to play alongside.
