i mentioned this scene in the 'tragic' thread, but it was actually hilarious in the cinema - tragi-hilarious - BJORK wearing big thick special needs glasses walking towards the camera in the pitch black, her glasses being the only visible thing in the whole scene.

pretty much every scene in 'ENDURING LOVE', especially the ones with the stalker played by rhys ifans standing outside daniel craig's house looking really miserable, like some hoxton hipster who has had his gak stolen or been featured in the 'don'ts' section in 'vice' - i.e. REALLY menancing

i like the scenes where he comes onto daniel craig as well, they are pretty unintentionally funny

There must be some kind of alternate cut/mashup of this where that trumped-up, grandiose score is replaced with circus marching music (all slide whistles and honk-honks and hee-haws).

I watched Red Cliff the other night actually. I veered wildly between "Why couldn't the Crouching Tiger guy have done this?" and "It's nice to see a Chinese historical epic done by someone other than the Crouching Tiger guy".

Overall: Win. I even didn't mind that it ended in a TO BE CONTINUED.

Incidentally: Have you read the Three Kingdoms? I started it the other week. It's much better than Shakespere - in that people spend more time getting chopped in half than talking. Anyway, it was good knowing a tiny bit of the background to Red Cliff, even if I'm not remotely at that point in the book yet. I kept going "Where's Lu Bu, dammit?"

didn't the COMPLETE LACK OF AMBIGUITY bother you?

I kind of enjoyed it though, as usually find these big historical epic things fairly confusing. while i was watching it, i could even start to see why people become obsessed with military history and was thinking of reading the 'Art of War'. But then forgot about that when i got home. I thought they were releasing it as one cut for UK/US audiences? In China, it's been released in two parts.

worst acting ever.

'son, i love you because i only jerk off over you' as in 'son, i wouldn't bumrape you' is funny because it sounds ridiculous, but in the context of the film the statement actually redeems the character (plus the film has the happiest scene ever at the end showing that the kid remains undisturbed despite his dad's childbumrape tendencies)

it's easy to make something tragic funny - like when people do those massive ridiculous wails in films (see the end of The Mist) because they've killed their whole entire family when the US Army was just around the corner and could have saved them from the aliens, etc

The Romance of the Three Kingdoms is one of the four great works of Chinese literature. It basically tells the story of the 100 years or so where everybody fought everybody else to be The One in China. It's about 20,000 pages long. The events of Red Cliff take up maybe a 10th of it. If that.

You can read it on the internet, but there's a great version put together by Moss Roberts in four volumes that you can probably pick up very reasonably if you pretend to be buying it for your school library, or something.

As for the 'complete lack of ambiguity' - think of the film as the Chinese Matter of Britain, and it becomes easier to bear.

Also, there's apparently two versions of the film: A massive multi-part epic for the domestic market, and a truncated Hollywood version for us plebs that's apparently full of holes and doesn't really do the tale justice.

I have no idea which one I watched, but it was cool, anyway.

It's not a bad film, but the bit at the start of Crouching Tiger when the guy gets the metal frisby thing stuck in his head made me chuckle.

the worst performance. Pacino seems to be the only one who realised the stupidity of the script and had a laugh with it.

Also Jaws 2, I think there's a bit about two thirds in when the rubber shark has tipped over the boats and eaten a couple of them, one of the girls randomly starts screaming in this banshee howl, it's one of those great WTF!!?! moments ever...
Oh alright, all the bits in Jaws 3 that were in 3d but now look SHIT.

i think if i had seen the film it would be heartbreaking but i had only seen this scene out of context of the rest of the film

If you can say that about his acting in that film, I think you have to say it about all Pacino's films. HOO-AHHH!

with Richard Dreyfus singing that Beautiful Boy song to his deaf son, complete with elaborate sign language. Easily one of the most cringe-worthy things I've ever had the pleasure to see.

Also worth of note is the sex scene in Showgirls, you know which one I mean. And Keanu Reeves in The Matrix, being all stealthy around the office cubicles.

He's a truly terrible actor yet i am a huge fan!

That and the titular opus is a massive hunk of mature Cheddar. And it appears that he spent forty years writing a four minute tune - that sounds like a demo-song off a mid-range Yamaha keyboard.

but its priceless for its 2 moments of hilarity: the scene where Hanks and co are in the Warden's bedroom with his dying wife and the supernatural act commited causes the set to shake and wobble, and Gary Pepper crying his little eyes out at the climax. I was crying too..but not for the same reasons as him/everyone else. XD
