Haggling
I've just been laughed at by my colleagues because I won't haggle. This girl was on about the laptop she bought, and that after a protracted argument with the shop staff she got £50 off and a mouse and stuff with it. I was saying that I haven't haggled over anything ever, from my house price to my car to the weekly shopping. Some bloke was saying that he bought two pairs of shoes from a shop the other day and haggled a 10% discount, and he thinks I'm daft for not trying.
Their argument is that I'm being had over, and prices are inflated in the first place and you have to haggle to get a reasonable price. My argument is that before I buy anything I decide if I'm happy with the advertised price. If I am I pay it, if I'm not I don't entertain it. To my mind if a price is inflated then the seller is doing themselves out of a deal because I'm now not interested, and because of this I'm happy that I'm not being taken for a mug.
So; haggling is a horrible pastime, right?
