HOMICIDE: A Year of the Killing Streets (The Wire fans-centric)
Has anyone read this? It was written by David Simon who later went on to create the amazing series The Wire.
He spent a year with the Baltimore Homicide unit and then wrote about it. I got it yesterday and have already polished off over 200 pages of it. It's an absolute monster but it's such a compelling read. It reads like piece of non-fiction, giving insights into the minds of the detectives and such which I imagine he gleaned through talking to them etc. It's fascinating to read how such small things can break a case and how sometimes no matter how much they want to solve a case they sometimes can't catch a break (evidenced by a child murder that has the whole squad up in arms but unable to find any evidence to 'whodunnit')
At times it's really funny and their are a lot of good points made about the justice system and how people treat one another in general.
I'd strongly recommend it to fans of The Wire or any sort of police procedurals as it shows the hard work and determination that goes into the job.
