Isaac Asimov
I'm currently reading foundation, which I picked up in a marvellous '6 used paperbacks for a quid' offer, along with SNAKE!, Mill on the Floss, a Brian Aldiss movel, The Books of Blood and something else that I've forgotten.
But I digress. I'm enjoying foundation, but it's actually quite badly written. Then it struck me: I can't think of many sci-fi writers who are able to combine really good ideas with really good writing. E.g.:
Asimov/Clarke/Aldiss = Good ideas/bad writing
Iain M Banks = Average ideas/good writing
Any that combine the two succesfully? Apart from HG wells. And Jules Verne. And Douglas Adams. Fuck. There's loads.
Any more?
