Wireless network problem :(
I'm not sure if anybody here can help, but this is really doing my head in!
I have the Orange Livebox, which I've been happily using for over a year.
I have just decided to try and make this wireless, however, as Orange charge extra for a card to fit inside the livebox, I was looking for a one off payment that would allow me to connect wirelessly without paying extra monthly charges to Orange. I was advised to purchase the "Buffalo WHR-HP-G54 High Power Wireless G Access Point w/4 Port Switch", which has arrived today.
Following the instructions I am getting absolutely nowhere...
Ethernet cable from Modem into WAN port on Airstation - check
Other cable from PC into slot 1 on the Airstation - check
Start up Livebox, wait 1 minute - check (all lights come on as normal)
Start up Airstation, wait 1 minute - check (two green lights come on, the bottom one occasionally flickering as you would expect)
Boot up PC
Connect to Firefox, Flock, IE (whatever browser)
"Internet cannot be found" message.
Go to 192.168.11.1
"Internet cannot be found" message.
Refresh wireless network list - there is the new unsecured connection there.
5% of the time it might actually connect, and you will see the settings screen from 192.168.11.1, this however will cut out at every available opportunity.
I've no idea what to try and do next. Any ideas?
What I am trying to achieve is simple. I am keeping my PC wired, but I want wireless available for a laptop in another room, I want it secured so that neighbours can't steal bandwidth, but that is about it. So whatever the easiest solution is, I'm interested in that one
