Kosovan Independence
Haven't seen much coverage of this issue on prime time news, which is odd considering the ramifications it could have on the UN. Just curious what peoples opinions on the matter are, if any does have one.
I'm finding it hard to come down from the fence. Some Albanian autonomy does seem necessary considering the overwhelmingly large majority they hold in the area, but Kosovo is 'historically' Serbian and a incredibly important part of their culture and history (see the Ottoman invasion, death of Prince Lazar etc) and recognising it as an independent state could set a disconcerting precedent for ethnic separtism. As stupid as it would be to deny the atrocities committed by the Serbians in the region by the likes of Tito and Milosevic, it does seem Western media has white-washed anti-Sebian activity in the region in the last centruy (the Ustasha movement, Kosovan Liberation activists etc). No compromise seems feasible...
