Social Networking and Delusions of Grandeur
Inspired by a thread about myspace abuse on the music board, a thought that has been bubbling wihin me for while has come to the surface.
Now I no way mean to slate personal freedomhere, everyone is entitled to theri opinion. However, has anyone else noticed that the rise of social networking sites made a lot of people seem to think that they and their opinions are the most important things in the world.
Scan any myspace page of a band, all you will see are messages either containing "I love you come and play in my town!" or lengthy diatribes using ridiculous superlatives about how they're the worst band ever (in their not so humble opion as it will be described as papal fact).
It's seeped into the real world too. At gigs these days people seem to think it's about them. I am at a Klaxons gig, ergo I am important and cool. Everyone seems to shout inane bollocks out at the top of their voices a lot more than they used to in some massive "Look at me! Look at me!" attempt. People always seem to be shouting songs THEY want to hear next. I disregard your set list, IIIIIIIIIIIIII want to hear this.
I've lost myself now, for at lunch I had loads of beer and 4 glasses of port. I guess what I'm trying to say is, the youth (16-27) of today=pretty attention seeking and self obsessed?
