Nuclear decomissioning in the UK and Europe - possibly no more life on Mars??
Seriously, any DiSers up with anything about this??
Our (the UK and the world) natural resources are depleting rapidly - a very serious issue for all of us... One viable option is nuclear energy (new forms of) whilst at the same time, working out what to do with the legacy issues of yesteryears powerplants... (yeah, sure, bury old nuclear waste but it's only something like one mile underground - and WHERE do we bury it?? Who the hell wants that waste on their doorstep?) One idea is - SERIOUSLY - for Europe to work together to somehow store it on our MOON or onto other planets like, say MARS... (there will be no life on Mars after that - la la la).
There is also a MASSIVE shortage of engineers who will be skilled to work in this area - right now they are all working on really 'important' issues like building the Olympic Games stadium (so if you are thinking of engineering as a career route and still have time to make that decision, you will be EXTREMELY CASHED UP if you go down this path - anyway...)
But seriously, anyone aware of the nuclear decommissioning process and issues surrounding this??
