That Black Foxxes review on the main site is a bit giddy. But what albums are genuinely perfect in your eyes?
Burn Piano Island Burn
40 Hour Train To Penn
Worship and Tribute
haha, good work letting us know about this review
Indeed, the trio evoke an astounding range of influences on the record, but manage to avoid the pitfalls of imitation with aplomb, instead variously lightly tipping their hat to touchstones like Rival School, Radiohead, Bright Eyes, City & Colour, Johnny Cash, Coheed & Cambria, Foo Fighters, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd and a whole host of others. Spanning decades in the blink of eye, it’s a seamless stitching together of rock’n’roll history that sounds contemporary and most importantly utterly unique.
Hatful of Hollow
Hex Enduction Hour
What's Going On
Dusty in Memphis
Music Has the Right to Children
Those sort of things
Is the first that comes to mind for me. Its absloutly perfect in what they were trying to do. Every song works and its really tight.
Arcade Fire - Funeral
Galaxies 500 - On Fire
does anyone actually edit reviews these days.
Honestly not. Especially given my choices of: In Utero, Soup, Closer, Pink Moon, Home, Like No Place
Just checking for a friend.
Talk to you soon.
Spirit of Eden
and about 3 Radiohead albums
On the topic of Black Foxxes, I'm off to see them in a few hours. Should be good.
Ten on ten, he's really grown out of the Andy Hull soundalike I had him for after the first ep
Bad format imqho
but I now realise Seventeen Seconds/Faith/Pornography are even better, and I'm even starting to prefer Kiss Me x 3 to it. But I wouldn't give any of those albums 10s (they're not far off though).
I wouldn't give any of those albums a 10 yet I would give Disintegration a 10. But I like those albums more than Disintegration, so I'm confused.
So outside their discography it's a 10, but inside, it isn't...
its so bloated and unispired. especially the second side which is mainly dirge filler (and not good dirge) which goes nowhere.
its the moment it became obvious Robert Smith had run out of ideas, imo
If half numbers are allowed I'd only go with the following; otherwise I'd round up about 30 odd albums as being closer to 10 than 9:=.
*MBV - Loveless
*Explosions in the Sky - The Earth is not a cold dead place
*Madder Rose - Bring it down
*The Go Betweens - Liberty Belle
*Slowdive - Souvlaki
*Smashing Pumpkins - Siamese Dream
*Sunny Day Real Estate - Diary
...that the answer is yes.
and about 20 others I'd give an honest 10
The original LP doesn't have Last Dance and Homesick. Those two songs are so vital I can't imagine the album having the same effect on me without them (especially Homesick). The track 'Disintegration' needs 'Homesick' as a bridge to 'Untitled', otherwise it doesn't work.
..but no prime numbers.
Could you define rules that work it out from individual song ratings, or is there more to it than that?
Aquemini - Outkast
Darkness on the Edge of Town - Bruce Springsteen
Funeral - Arcade Fire
Graceland - Paul Simon
Illmatic - Nas
OK Computer - Radiohead
Run The Jewels 2 - Run The Jewels
Weezer - Blue album
Sundays - Reading Writing and Arithmetic
John Cale - Paris 1919
NMH - ITAOTS
Arthur Russell - Another Thought
Blue Nile - Walk Across The Rooftops
Kate Bush - Hounds of Love
Ramones - Ramones
Stevie Wonder - Songs in the Key of Life
Ween - The Mollusc
"10/10" - Smash Hits
But 10/10 is pure hyperbole!
